INSIGNIA CHAIRMAN AND CEO, CHARLES G. BROWN, III ATTENDS FDIC ADVISORY COMMITTEE ON COMMUNITY BANKING MEETING IN D.C.

Sarasota, Fla. December 2, 2010—Charles G. Brown, III, Chairman and CEO, of Insignia Bank recently returned from the quarterly FDIC Advisory Committee on Community Banking meeting in Washington, DC.

The Advisory Committee, consisting of 14 community banking CEO’s from around the country, was formed to provide the FDIC with advice and recommendations on a broad range of policy issues that have particular impact on small community banks around the nation.

At the meeting, the FDIC updated the CEO’s on the new developments due to the recent Dodd Frank Financial Legislation. The Dodd Frank Legislation was signed into law on July 21, 2010 and is the most sweeping change to financial regulation since the Great Depression. The stated aim of the legislation is “To promote the financial stability of the United States by improving accountability and transparency in the financial system, to end "too big to fail", to protect the American taxpayer by ending bailouts, to protect consumers from abusive financial services practices, and for other purposes.

As a result of the new financial legislation, the Office of Complex Financial Institutions (within the FDIC) and the new Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (a separate and new regulator) are being formed.

Mr. Brown often speaks at local civic and community organizations updating members on the impact to the economy, as a result of the updates from the FDIC. If you are interested in having Mr. Brown speak at your organization, to update members of the impact of the recent financial legislation, arrangements can be made by contacting him at Insignia Bank, 941-366-7100.
